A sad Omega time ........
« on: 30 November 2012, 19:07:16 »

Yep, car sold  :'(

Has gone to a good home, someone who needs a car at the moment.

Why did I sell it, especially after all the time, effort & ££££££££££ spent?

Basically, it isn't getting used due to the need for a newer and fuel efficient daily driver for work.

So, that's it from me. I'll look in from time to time, but will be spending significantly less time on OOF that I have before. Unless of course I buy another Omega .....   ::) I still have masses of parts to dispose of.

I've had Omegas on and off for 19 years now - so think that I've done Vauxhall fairly well in that time.

Congrats and commisserations at the same time Robert. :y :D
Ive noticed that quite a few regulars have put their Omegas up for sale in the last few weeks.Hoping to keep mine for one more year. After that who knows,I could be dead by then. ;D
An old Merc 190D or Skoda 1.9 TD are looking like the most likely replacements for mine when the time comes.

Unfortunate sign of the times I think.I'm lucky in that I only do 5,000 miles a year so running costs not such a problem for me,if I did more miles I too would have to have a transport re-think.

Thanks, I did enjoy my final drive today and was sorely tempted to put it in the garage and keep it as a plaything. However, the cost of insurance, tax and MoT come to over £500 a year - which I really can't justify. I have left the car in significantly better shape than I found it - so I guess have made a "contribution". On the downside, I have scrapped 4 other Omegas in the last 3 years or so as it made economic sense at the time.

Cost of fuel seems to be a recurring theme :-\ noticed earlier that Unleaded is only 128 at Sainsbugs in Oldham :o

A am now the proud owner of a Mondeo Mk4 Titanium X Tdci 2.0.

I know that it's WWD and has a heated screen - but I love it and dont have a problem with either aspect. It hasn't got the raw power of the Omega 3.0, but the power is only just shy of a 2.5 @ 160 BHP and has masses more Torque than any Omega so pulls like a train.

I'm going to be doing a lot of driving in the new job and have had no trouble reaching the claimed average mpg of 53.

In terms of goodies - it's a different mix to the Omega. It has a fuel powered aux air heater which gives warm air within a few seconds of a cold start. Heated and cooled seats, an excellent audio system with DAB, Bluetooth and USB port. Also has front & rear parking sensors - all as standard. Hasn't got Zenons - but you you wouldn't know it as the standard lights are so good.

So there we are. It's no better or worse as a car - so not interested in meaningless comparisons about that. A bit like trying to decide between your children - you love them all.

Off soapbox now - am off to put up our outside xmas tree  :y
