It was a different DJ (Kyle Sandilands) on a show called the Kyle and Jackie O Show that got that poor kid involved.

It was the same radio station though!

An exceptionally sad set of circumstances....

That some folks need to intrude into a wholly private matter regarding a potential birth for the sake of a few cheap laughs and giggles, to the other extreme that a person - potentially/possibly - is so embarrassed or ashamed of their actions that they feel the need to end their involvement in the matter so precisely and terminally, well, thats just so sad.

And overall, such a piss poor reflection of the society that we have actively encouraged.

sad...... :-[

Well said Broocie......

Am I right in thinking that, going on info we have at the moment........

These DJs called the hospital jokingly pretending to be the Queen trying to get info on the birth. This nurse falls for it and gives out confidential information to them.

Then the said nurse is believed to have committed suicide because of the shame?

That about sums it up, with the information that 'we know'  :( :( :(

Yes. The BBC, amongst others, repeatedly ran the story and tape. The dead nurse who answered the call - but did not give out confidential information (merely put the call through), does not have English as a first language. Yet the DJs obliquely mocked her for not realising it was a hoax call. Poor woman later knew she had done wrong and the media world was laughing at her. She decided she couldn't take it.

Sad, so sad. RIP.  :'( :'(

Ok well first of all it's very sad of course and it's very sad to think that someone would do this if that is the case.

HOWEVER

why is there not one post questioning the mental stability of this girl? yeah she gave away info incorrectly. yeah she may have took a bollocking of the highest order from her bosses. yes she may have been ridiculed. but come on.... killing yourself cos of this???

before i get any potential moaners..... this is just my opinion and is in no way taking away from the sadness of the situation.

That's why I said with what we know now.. ;) both swmbo and I tend to think there may be more to this than meets the eye, but she does hold down a responsible Job, I know that does not mean you can't have personal problems.....Christmas coming and her children are in Bristol...?? who know if this was the 'straw that broke the camels back' even if this turns out to be the case I think the DJ's have a lot to answer for..... :( :(

We have to take responsibility for our actions and sometimes a practical joke can backfire.....

She didn't give out the confidential information. However, no-one can underestimate the fact that she (and the other nurse) were made out to be foolish for not realising it was a hoax. I suspect she felt that would haunt her for the rest of her life. The DJs mocked her and the much of the world joined in their derision. None of us can understand how it must feel.  :(

IME, hospitals won't give out any information over the phone, period. I'd expect that to be especially strictly enforced when the gutter press are likely to be sniffing found a high profile patient, so why was a nurse ever put in this position in the first place? Why were calls not being handled by a call centre full of trained "'puter says no" types who simply don't have any information or contact with the patients in the first place?

Desperately sad that she appears to have had the full weight of this sad reflection on modern life resting on her shoulders. :'(

It never ceases to amaze me how much information I can get without the informer checking that I am who I say I am............some organisations will ask for a faxed request in an emergency or even an email which will confirm who I am via the address, but I have a reputaion, get called 'Poriot' for my enquiring techniques on the telephone, and I must admit it is a part of the Job I love... :-X :-X

Well, this is what I'm getting at. I'd be pretty livid if someone was able to get confidential medical information on me in one phone call (and any medical information is confidential, IMHO). Why isn't there a more professional setup answering the phone calls with some staff trained in dealing with difficult callers rather than administering jabs?

If "HM the Queen" apparently calls at 05.30am, and your a nurse - not a receptionist - and you have the Duchess of Cambridge in your care...would you ask "HM the Queen" for proof of identity?  ???
