IME, hospitals won't give out any information over the phone, period. I'd expect that to be especially strictly enforced when the gutter press are likely to be sniffing found a high profile patient, so why was a nurse ever put in this position in the first place? Why were calls not being handled by a call centre full of trained "'puter says no" types who simply don't have any information or contact with the patients in the first place?

Desperately sad that she appears to have had the full weight of this sad reflection on modern life resting on her shoulders. :'(

If "HM the Queen" apparently calls at 05.30am, and your a nurse - not a receptionist - and you have the Duchess of Cambridge in your care...would you ask "HM the Queen" for proof of identity?  ???

Exactly my point. Why was a nurse answering the phone? Because a call centre droid wouldn't care who you were.

I don't think The King Edward VII has call centres (thank God!), and even if it did, 05.30 am would see it unmanned!!!  ;)

It was reported that there was an error on the part of the Hospital's administration system.  When a Royal is in residence calls concerning them should be directed to senior police officers to ascertain the true nature of the call, and from what was said I suspect normally their is a set procedure whereby, say if the Queen called, which in fact would be a Royal Protection Officer in the first instance, verification is gained.

An awful failure to follow procedure was apparently made, and the poor nurse fell victim to the consequences of it.

Contrary to whatever the hospital said about "supporting" the nurse,  she probably had the rollicking of her life and got suspended immediately,  probably added to whatever stresses she was going through

That I think is what will come out later.  As another poster stated, when someone commits suicide it is for more than one reason, and it is an accumulation of "problems" that can send someone into a very dark place indeed!

The nurse never took her life because of a prank call from a couple of typical aussie DJ's.  It would have been a collection of things that was going on in here life that she couldn't handle for what ever reasons.

At the end of the day, there are 2 parents who will be organising there daughters funeral today and 2 young kids who won't be opening there christmas boxes with there mother this year or ever again.

THAT is the real tragedy here, nothing else  :(

Driving someone to suicide is murder as far as i'm concerned , it's bullying, pure and simple, it's stupid, immature, uncivilised, contemptible, and worthy of karmic retribution, and i'd dearly like to visit the pain they caused back on the dj's tenfold. and if it were YOUR sister/mother/cousin/school friend who'd been broken by this pair of utter idiots, what then would you say?

(for the record, i'v never found piss-take prank "comedy" the remotest bit funny, the whole Jeremy Beadle , or even the Borat thing has always been something i detested..... )

I have some familiarity with "high end" private sector healthcare, and I would be certain of the above.

People in life are pushed over the edge by a combination of things not just one instance Max  ;)

I don't mind prank calls that end with the caller stating who they really are and the recipient sees the funny side.

This is indeed a very sad incident indeed, i agree with a lot of the coments that have already been posted.
However the "Aussie" pair started a ripple in a teacup which the worlds media quickly turned into a storm.
Yes i believe there are sides to this we do not and may never know, but now the media which i feel caused the most pain should back off for the sake of her family.

Just my Tpence worth and my thoughts go out to her family :( :( :(

Whilst the death of this nurse is truly saddening, especially at this time of year :'(

I can't believe that this prank call would have ever been made if the djs/radio station had considered this outcome even remotely possible :-\ Even Prince Charles was making a joke about the call the following day...

Was this call really that far removed from Scott Mills calls to various places  :-\ That pizza shop owner got so worked up he could easily have had a heart attack :-\

I suspect that once exposed as a prank call, that poor nurse would have been hounded by the press trying to hear her side of events, also an amount of ribbing by her colleagues would have been highly likely. The hospital might also have handled the whole situation less than sensitively :-\ I'm sure that she won't be the last person to take their own life following a pre christmas dismissal :'(. (of course I highly doubt that they would admit to that now >:() All of the above is speculative, of course, but a combination of factors obviously led to this tragic outcome.

Any suggestion of conspiracy theories only serve to fuel the fire, and we as a society are as guilty of that as the media that provides it for us to lap up. If we didn't lap it up, there might actually be something worth reading in the press :-X
