Xenon headlights
« on: 14 December 2012, 09:36:38 »

Hi all!
Does anyone know of a good source for new headlights, Xenon ones for my Elite?
The ones on the car look to be badly mistreated with the clarity really poor - almost like a solvent had been used on them.
Not sure yet if I want direct replacements or something a bit more special.
I've looked at the obvious places and not seen a lot tbh so any ideas would be gratefully received!

Dave.

There are some on ebay, is it the plastic covers that are the problem as you can get some stuff to clean them up.

Hi, yes it is the plastic covers. They appear to have the "polished" surface coming off just leaving a glazed, cloudy surface. I have scratched at a small area with just my thumbnail and the surface comes away so I don't think these will clean up.

As a thought, if you dismantle them using the adjuster renewal guide in the Maintenance Section.

Then buy new cheap bog standard pattern ones (Valeo perhaps from a factor/ebay), dismantle them as well, and refit the nice shiny new lenses to your Xenon lamps, probably worth renewing the adjusters while you're at it :-\ Considerably cheaper than new Xenon ones :y

Alternatively, try Steve at Omega Spare Parts, near Heathrow, or any of the breakers on here :y

Thanks for the replies. I've got a pair coming from ebay - subject to them checking that the manual adjusters work ok. I went to collect two that I bought but found them to be broken inside - the threaded mouldings that the adjuster hex screws turn in were shattered and the inner chrome backings were flopping about inside the unit. Obviously useless apart from what bits I could salvage from the lights - bulbs, holders, ballasts etc.
Will still keep an eye out for some nice new ones though.
