About To Lose The Plot With A Focus.
« on: 17 December 2012, 21:23:00 »

SWMBO called earlier to say her exhaust had fallen off and couldn't drive home. (2003 Ford Focus)

I (as all super hero's do) jumped in my (reliable) car and arrived at her side.  She was shaking, wet and cold, but my (reliable) car was warm, so I ushered her inside my (reliable) car and set to work removing the broken exhaust.

To my utter dismay, the whole entire massive back-box had fallen off.  "My word" I thought as I looked beneath the car.  "How did she possibly get this far with such a disabled motor vehicle?"  Alas, I bit my quivering bottom lip and set upon the task of ripping the back-box from it's rubber hanger.

Satisfied with my utterly astonishing feat of manly-ness, I flung the huge back-box in the boot and slammed it loudly whilst brushing my hands in a uber manly manner.

I then moved toward my (reliable) car and lovingly pulled her from the warm passenger seat.  Softly in her ear I said "Why did you F'ing call me?  Just drive the sack of Sh*t home".

Leaving her in a slight plume of tyre smoke from my (reliable) car, I got home and chillaxed with a glass of wine whilst cooking the dinner.

Am I the only one who gets annoyed with 'Her Indoors' who phones for no real reason? (Please, I am not sexist, you could be the 'bird' who gets called)   :-X

Merry Christmas

P.S - Any good or bad news regarding Exhaust parts from EuroCarParts?
P.P.S - No, the Reliable car is not an Omega.

My "good" lady once drove nearly 3 miles with a punctured rear tyre, it was in shreds when I got there, black smoke pouring from the wheel, almost trashed wheel,on the fone she had said its making a really funny noise from the back...I went ballistic, it was my late 60`s Sunbeam Rapier, my pride and joy, she never ever was allowed to drive it again...

the wife of a lad at work did the same. She got home & declared that there was something wrong with the car & would he have a look. The tyre had completely disintegrated and she was half way through destroying the alloy rim!!!!  :o :o :o :o :o

Dont get me started on this >:(

Despite keeping her car in good condition she invariably keeps me busy by 'forgetting' to do simple checks, like looking for failed bulbs, checking oil level, etc.  A major leap forward was when the windscreen washer fluid check became regular, although that was a tough love moment.

Recently, despite this general apathy, she has it in her head that her cambelt needs changing. Why?  Because the effing theiving lying sh!tes of a garage (who replaced brake discs they claimed were past their best but were in fact 3 months old) said that it needs it.  Forget listening to me who knows a bit about what he is doing and instead listen to the garage who ripped her off while I was away.

The same happened with me re: tyres. At the time my burd was a trolley dolly working from Gatwick. She had to borrow my MGB GT to get to work one morning. Phone goes after half an hour and she said there is a funny noise coming from the front wheels. I get there after getting me out of bed and find the front nearside wire wheel nearly disintegrated. One happy chappie I was. New wire wheel required! :( :( :(

Have you got an exhausts unlimited outlet near you? Always found them good.
My ex wife drove my MG Montego EFI for 4 miles with a flat. It was one with the metric tyres that cost three times the price of a normal tyre. Very impressed......NOT >:(

My theory, arrived at through the trials and tribulations of life - several ex's, a divorce, etc, is that although the female of the species appear different on the outside their inner workings all come from the same box!! I'm not being nasty or sexist, this is something I have come to after several years. What noise?, what light on the dash? I just drive it!! All have such a familiar ring.............

Women seem to have one of two approaches to mechanical things.

Either they're utterly paranoid about the slightest, barely detectable 'fault', and nothing short of a complete rebuild by space shuttle mechanics in a sealed clean room will do.
Or, they'll continue to use it even though it's making the most awful clanking/knocking/squealing vibration with a Christmas tree of warning lights until "It just stopped", having done several hundred pounds worth of extra damage in the process. Pointing out that stopping when the noise first started makes everything your fault.

Urm??

There IS another third type of woman, who is growing in numbers daily! ::) ::) ::) ::) ;)

The type like me who has never, and will never be completely at the mercy of male arrogance and will use all their skills to ensure the vehicle keeps running at peak mechanical efficiency, with very little outward effort.  We may cry a lot when things go wrong, but we will not be beaten and just get on with resolving the issues.

Woman who sit in the warmth of their vehicle to await help from their "hero" probably have the best idea of all and I envy them.  But when you have the choice of being able to do the work, or sitting there forever for a non-existent "hero", then I cannot hold back! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I remember well though how my man, my "hero", would become most upset if I had not sought his assistance, and as his "weak and feeble woman" (??!!) had gone ahead carrying out work that "belonged" in his arrogant male domain. He learn't the errors of his ways many times! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

Ah, come on people...... You have to admit that the majority of people haven't got the foggiest when it comes to anything more alien than tying their boot laces, that's both Men and Women!  We have to accept we live in a society of muppets.  The very fact we are members on here shows that we have a keen interest of keeping our car running with minimal cost (DIY or taking knowledge to the local mechanic).  It is clear to me, though, that the vast majority of members are Male, so it could be said that most people who maintain their own vehicle are Male could it not?  Possibly most Omega owners are Male?  I don't know as matter of fact!  I do however know that whilst in a 'Kwik Fit' in Newport t'other day, every customer was a Man (I have a LeaseHire Van which commands I go to ShitFit for new boots).  It made me realise how stupid people really are.

Back to the original post - New BackBox (£15.33) from ECP and fitted it tonight in 15-20 minutes.  Just put the rear wheel onto a kerb to get a little extra height and Bob is your Aunt Fanny's Wife.

I'm still a "Hero" in her eye's!  ;D

My local favourite tyre and exhaust dealer, who actually does everything else as well, has just put up a load of posters and stickers stating that they are "women friendly", and have listed how they are going to help us when we use their services. :y :y

Nice touch I thought, as there ARE too many women who ARE intimidated by garage staff and feel very vulnerable.  That is why so many men get the task from their better half to "sort the car out darling"! ;D ;D ;D ;)
