facelft 2.5td tuning
« on: 29 December 2012, 03:28:04 »

i know its already been asked a million times about tuning this motor.  To date its 79k miles, converted 5 speed manual and LSD.  Going to blank off erg at next service which ive plugs to bang in and while im at it have pre painted manifold.  Any hows shes my daily barge and needs a bit more get up and go.  Would love to have the time and money to get a 530d engine in her but as i said its a daily driver and down time needs to be less than a days graft.  Any ways been looking at these chips from poland that are on ebay and hearing good things about them but still want a little more power.  So what else can be done? even down to the small things.  I hear removing the back box with a straight through will help and a decent air filter.  Also can someone recommend a tuning box.  Are they any good? I know there pricey yes but just need something thats quick and easy to sort out as its the dad mobile lol.

Cheers

If its manual, its good to go chipping wise. The 2.5TD was actually de-tuned in the Omega, just chipping it back to full BMW spec makes a big difference.

TheBoy or Omegatoy are people to talk to on chipping these beasts  :y

Couldn't see any reference to facelift. All tractors have egr.

Was it an auto, converted to a manual, or was it always manual?

That was how I read it. Wonder if ECU was changed during conversion (GM fit a different ECU, depending on manual or auto!).

Ideally need ECU type, guess its 428 - same as my old tractor. I loved the chip in that...  ...but not the cost of rear tyres ::)

The first 2 AR25s didn't ::)

The AR35 was OK.  Although I still maintain that the GM autobox isn't suited to that engine.

to answer all it was an auto converted manual with the wiring crossed off to trick it into thinking its still auto, lol still brings a smile to my face when it brings up on the info display auto transmission  :y :y  Its a 2001 facelift 2.5td the bmw engine.  I think only the very very 1st of the face lifts got these, was the shape i wanted with the donkey i was after.  Not to sure what brain is in it though but for the auto to manual conversion its the orginonal auto brain.

Is there a chip that can bring it up to about 170bhp? or would a map or tuning box be the order of the day?

A tech2 reprogram on the display can fix that  :y
