Hi, I have used several of the guides from this site before but now I am hoping I can ask for a little more help with my 2001 2.2 omega estate. Ive sometimes had the service light come on while driving which always clears on a restart but now the engine warning light is permanently on. I have used the pedal trick to obtain the codes from this site (thanks) which are 1555 0420 1130 0170. The car drives fine and idles fine but wont take power when cold, a minute or 2 from start up it is fine. Also I had a new cat fitted 3 months ago.

The new cat would explain the P0420, sadly. Pattern cats are universally substandard

Given the other codes and symptoms, I'd start with a throttle body clean - there is a guide

Because the flexi had failed before the cat? Don't suppose you kept the old one did you?

sadly no I dont still have the old cat, and the only problem was the joint to mid section which had croded badly and the mid section needed replacing. The local garrage actually quoted me the same fitted as I could buy it for so I had them fit it.

I've taken the throttle body off and given it a good clean there was some build up but not enough to have caused a restriction to air flow, ive also taken the breater hoses in to work and flushed them through, put it all back together and the problem still pesists. I dont need the car to get to work so can live with out it for a while but I have found that now even when warm it seams to miss fire occasionaly. I am wonderng if I need to replace a lambda sensor? anyone had any simmilar problems?

just to update I’ve removed the connector to the MAF sensor and the car does run much better though not perfect so I think I'll buy a new one, next I'll block off the EGR valve and see where that gets me

Ideally get trims checked before buying a maf, esp as it has a pattern cat

The EML is on because there's still a fault, when it's fixed, the EML will go out.

well the EML has gone and the car drives fine. so if anyone else has some similar trouble it might be worth checking the MAF
Perhaps I did not make my question clear when you say trims checked, is this something that needs an exhaust gas analyser or are the on board sensors enough connected to a code reader?the
