P304 followed by flat battery
« on: 30 December 2012, 18:08:06 »

I've got a 2001 2.2 CDX Auto.
I was driving along when I had a loss of power with a slight purring vibration, the engine light came on 10 secs later. I got home and got the error code out: P0304 Misfire on cylinder 4.
I thought I'd try changing the spark plug but a couple of days later I went to start the car and the battery was flat, all the dash lights come on but the engine doesn't try and turn over at all.
These could be unrelated but does anyone have an idea on what could explain both these faults.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Could be conscience, i would separate the faults, fully slow charge your battery and and start again and see what happens, first place to look is as you say spark plugs abd check for oil or water in the wells.

Thanks fella, spot on,

I only just got around to it, for all sorts of reasons.

Charged battery, well 4 half full of water, well 3 quarter full, mopped it all up, put it back together, it didn't start. However went back the next day and it started fine, I guess it needed a bit of drying time.

I wonder whether that much water had shorted the battery somehow, I wouldn't have thought so with the ignition off, oh well, alls good now.

i would suggest that a new set of leads might be a good idea as they will have been shorting and tracking to earth with all that water.
