Sub Woofer
« on: 06 January 2013, 13:05:56 »

Cant rember what model stereo I have, but its just the basic CD/Radio in my 2003 2.2 GLS

Its a double Din unit, does it have any options to fit a sub woofer to it?

Also considering if I cant fit a sub to the standard unit then upgrade it to a DVD player and screen and fit a revering camera and possibly sat nav to it.

If it doesn't have a dedicated sub or line output, your only other option (if you don't want to upgrade the HU) will be to get a sub that can be switched between line & speaker level input.

Do NOT skimp on the power cables, and make sure the fuse is as close to the battery as possible.

It will be CDR 2005 unit, weak as Tesco value beer.

You will want to replace headunit, just doing that improves sound a huge amount

Upgrade time it is then, yes agreed, you get what you pay for.

Anyone know if any of the units out there can record from the front/rear camera's.  I dont drive that much but when I do I seem to find all the lane changers and bumper bandits that are allways in a rush and allways wish I had the option to record them, so rather than spending money on the GPS camera kit that was mentioned a while back when the Monaro was taken on a test drive by a garage then would rather add the cash to a better head unit, and one that had a recordng option to SD card if possible.

Nope.
You can get these...

...I'd disconnect the rear door speakers and feed the signal into the above gadget.

I don't know how these would look in an Omega dash but they seem a good price...

They will probably require the newer CAN communication system as used on the CD30, etc. so likely won't work in an Omega (certainly won't integrate with car's info display, etc. even if basic functionality works.).

Just popped a decent AMP and subwoofer into my Omega, (Double Din facelift) had NO RCA outputs so had to install a right and left Channel RCA leads similar to the previous post showing an ebay item, dead sinch to install. Power Amp installed in the compartment in the boot on the right hand side, fits a treat, fortunately I have decent power at the back due to tow bar fitting, but on my old Omega got power from front of car near drivers seat side. Amp only on with ignition so works really well

Please don`t tell me you have wired the amp remote to the ignition - its a really bad idea, does not allow the amp to soft start and will switch on with an equipment damaging thud.

Wire it up properly, or there will be tears.

Hi Dave,

Certainly Not wired to the ignition, just that it the amp will only only come on if ignition on and Radio switched on, otherwise it would be on all the time if just connected to a live which many people do consequently draining the battery

amp should be powered directly from the battery, the switch live from headunit is what turns it on and off,ive never had a battery drain when connected like this  :y

I must confess, that I have never encountered one draining when correctly wired like this also.
