OBD computer software
« on: 08 January 2013, 23:53:51 »

Hi all.

Can anyone reccommend a good reliable OBD software to read the on board computer via my laptop.
I do have a Scantech system worth £2000 new but it is too big to keep moving about. need a bit mor mobility.
Seen some on Ebay but a bit warey. Not sure due to possible cr*p cheap copies and non working software.
I run windows 7 64 bit on my laptop.

Any ideas please.
Had a mis-fire lately. not aprob now as it has gone but just like to keep abreast of any probs.
Nice if it can read the Miggy as well as the Galaxy too.

Thanks.

I'm sure Entwood will be along later with what he's got... ELM 327 rings a bell :-\

I would be very wary about the laptop based ones as they can be a bit hit and miss, without considering the legality of the copy you can buy from eGay :-X ::)

What year is the Galaxy? is one of the older ones built in calibration with VAG? if so then the software you want is VCDS. Very very good and they even do a freeware version. If it's the later 08 on car then you want  FORscan. Once again a freeware works with an ELM 327 interface. If you want generic keenly priced legit OBD program then try Gendan's enginecheck pro. Also uses ELM 327 interface. Gendan also do a Vauxhall specific version but it doesn't go as deep as Tech 2. All the above are legal versions. Just type the titles into Google.

If you want something truly portable try it on your Mobile with a ODB/ELM327 Bluetooth reader, about a tenner on the Bay.

The demo software I tried is free, and also lets you reset EML light.

Edit: forgot to mention ODB2 only so 2001 onwards for Petrol cars.

I binned the ELM 327 some while back .. use a stand alone maxscan now ... laptop based stuff too unreliable and a pain in the ..... to use .. maxscan is dead simple :)
