Jag S Type Fuel System
« on: 14 January 2013, 23:07:52 »

Hi Guys,

I'm not being lazy - but I can't seem to find a definite answer. Does anyone know if my 2001, Y plate S type 3.0 V6 Jag has a normal fuel system, or a returnless one?

One site hinted it wasn't introduced until 2004, but I really don't know.

My engine is the chain driven 240bhp one - basically the Ford Duratec lump!

Cheers,
James

Have a look under the bonnet... ;)

How many fuel lines does it have?

Girl ;D

Just for that... (;D) I've just been outside and had a look ;D

After looking in the usual omega place, and seeing no fuel lines.. I had a look under the car...

I got excited when I saw two large rigid metal lines coming from the back up into the nearside of the engine bay... however only one of them goes to the injector rail... the other one is simply a vent for the tank / carbon canister, I believe.

SO it's returnless

Balls!

Given that it was designed and built by Ford, what could you possibly have expected ::)

A glorified Fiesta engine with a few more cylinders?  :D

So in seriousness...

What would be the recommended approach for LPG'ing this beast?

I could install LPG on an Omega without thinking about it now... but not so sure about this one!

With the omega, the fuel is simply pumped back into the tank, and the engine ECU think's it's business as usual. On the Jag, the fuel can't be pumped back, so that principle can't be applied..

Didn't I answer this in the other thread? I think, and it's only think, that you need to fit a restricted return line ;)

I'm sure it's been covered on the LPG Forum  ;)

Cheers LD, I did have a look on there but couldn't find too much - might be tiredness!

Sounds like quite a complex, or at least fiddly, job!

Yep, return line and / or possibly a box of tricks that "fools" the petrol ECU into seeing what it expects to see.

Add to that the fact that the engine isn't really up to running LPG due to soft valve seats. Who was it who once said.. "If I wanted to get there, I wouldn't have started here!"

I wouldn't convert anything with a Ford engine... VSR has been known in as little as 10k :o (Admittedly with no Flashlube)
