Robbing DVLA barstewards
« on: 29 April 2008, 23:47:49 »

Just a word of warning about DVLA as i know quite a few members break omegas for spares, make sure you SORN your cars.

Apparently posting the form back isn't good enough you have to wait 4 weeks then chase them for conformation (but it only says that on the back of the form you've posted!!!!!! - self-abusers)

Evidence of disposal or SORN will only be accepted if you can produce this acknowledment letter otherwise it's an £80 fine, £40 if you pay quick but not if you wish to dispute claim because then you won't be quick???

really pissed off about this so i'm off to bed >:(

I SORN'd my lads car on-line. You get a confirmation email

THIS IS AN AUTOMATED EMAIL - PLEASE DO NOT REPLY AS EMAILS
RECEIVED AT THIS ADDRESS CANNOT BE RESPONDED TO.

Confirmation of Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN)

Thank you for using DVLA Vehicle Licensing Online. Your SORN declaration has been successful.

Reference Number: 1234 5678 1234 5678
Vehicle Registration Mark: A123ABC
Application made on: 24/02/2008 13:56:31
SORN Period: 12 months

The SORN confirmation letter should arrive in the post within 4 weeks
.

The car was back on the road the following month so it never got as far as the letter.

My youngest stepson is reaching that age, remember it well, good memory, and is talking scooters n bikes etc, swmbo not impressed, apparently I am encouraging him :-?
Anyway brings the form home, needs £50.00 to apply, seems a bit ott to me, particularly as it will be me having to pay for it. ;) in moe ways than one. :)

online seems the way - just a bit anoying that all these govt agencys seem to be judge & jury and WE the innocent consummer are guilty until proven inocent which is very hard to do.
SORN is supposed to crack down on tax dodgers but now just seems to be another revenue earner like speed Scameras >:(

4 weeks and then chase for acknowledgment letter rule still applies - otherwise they may 'forget' to send out sorn reminder and you get a nice fine , oh and they backdate tax to add on top

Then your stepson you'll need money for the theory test (c£30 IIRC) & another £100 for the driving test practical - c£50 for the test,  plus an hour before the test & an hour for the car to the instructor.
It's a dear do when your kids are learning to drive. My memory must be failing me 'cos i seemto remember paying for it all myself nearly 30 yrs back.  :-/  ;)

We are only at teh 16 yr old stage, but yes there is more cost to come. ::)
I am already anticipating next year, browsing the odd car or two, he has different opinions to me on what type of car he would like. No problem, he will drive a Mini, a proper one, or another suitable car of my choice or he will buy his own, he has a choice ;D ;D ;D

And what about the cost of driving lessons?

My youngest just couldn't seem to get the hang of it (a bit like me, really).  He must have had about 60 lessons, and heaven knows how much practice with me - not a pleasant experience.

Mind you, he eventually passed first time, after I made him change instructors. :(
