A St Bernard would be great actually.

I don't know what the cat will make of it though! ;D

What you could do is narrow your choice down to one or two breeds and contact the rescue homes that cater for that particular breed as well as trawling through the general rescue centres. :y

Both of our Labs came from Labradour rescue :y

Kent, not too far away from you as long as you don't go in an omega:

Try Rescue Remedies. They re home the best small dog breed in the whole creation of woofer dogs. The staffordsgire bull terrior. Also the most mis-understood dog as well. However if you bring them up right they are the most most loyal dogs. Great with cat's to.

. . . . . but they charge loads and rarely have small dogs in anyway.

Realistically most if not all rehoming organisations require a "donation" which is usually around £80 but can be a lot more.

Not exactly near Fulham, but take a look below

Thats very true that  :y

Banter aside
My german shepperd gets on with cats very well as long as they run and he can chase. Basicly he is a bloody big puppy who has never grown up :)
At the end of the day, there is no such thing as a bad dog, only bad owners  ;)

As said, have a word with the rescue centres and see what they have in.
If they have a dog in that is used to have been around cats and you conect with it then go for it  :y
I wouldn't discount any breed because believe me, if a cat gets pished off and decides to hit back then my money is on the cat everytime  ;D

The trouble with staffies is their usual anti social behaviour towards other dogs and although not the dogs fault the wariness of other dog owners towards the breed. Those that are up for rescue have not usually been well brought up by responsible owners

That is the most misleading statement I ever read. Having had two Staffers and currently a staffer/boxer cross they have never been anything other than excellent with other dogs. It's not the dogs attitude which is the issue it's  the owners. This just proves my mis-understood quote

Absolutely. My local RSPCA dogs home is probably around 75% Staffies or Staffie-type dogs. See the link on my previous post.

Although these animals deserve a "second chance" and sympathy, it's another matter to actually take one on not knowing what emotional or psychological baggage they are carrying. No easy answer.

Yes there is. Don't get a second-hand staffie.
