A fuel consumption work update
« on: 21 January 2013, 14:41:43 »

Well this weather's fun aint it  ::)

Ok so I donned the overalls and thermals to go and do the vacuum leak test on the car....anyone else get frozen bonnet struts?  :o

Anyways, i had a good spray round with carb cleaner and used the ''hose as an ear trumpet'' method. nothing!

carb cleaner method i'm finding pretty useless cos you simply have no space to spray the areas where leaks could be getting to and similarly i cant get the hose in to where i want to. anyways no changes in idle (carb cleaner) and no squealing like a piggy (hose ''deliverance'' method) but still not happy with the outcome.

anyways my compression tester arrived this morning  8) 8) so going to try and get that done this week. then swapping disspac out at the weekend.
oh and rear pads too.... i'm going to reuse the old retaining springs and pins unless anyone reckons this is a mistake?

When we last changed my pads my lad fitted the new springs but found the new supplied pins were too short, so had to refit the originals! They only had surface rust & were as good as new underneath :y

You can reuse the old springs (as long as they haven't disintegrated ;)) and pins no problem... I always clean them up :y

Mine are a bit weak, and so I need to 'pump' the bonnet up and down a couple of times for it to stay up. I've spent enough time and money on it lately to just live with this new characteristic.
