It is new,at least in modern times. In the last decade there has been a huge influx, particularily in to London and the surrounding area.In particular,in east London there has been strong growth in seperatist Muslims, who are turning parts of it into a ghetto, where indiginous people are told to leave the area,if their appearance or behaviour doent fit with the sharia mindset (as recently seen on TV news).Drive down mile end/whitechapel road and it really is like being in a foreign country, complete with the wailing calling the faithful to prayer from the enormous Mosque.
It isnt mullticulturalism, its the existing culture being swamped. Its gone too far imo.
But Albitz what seems new now is actually not, even in modern times. First the Romans came in and created Londinium for the Brits in ancient times, and right up to now there have been large influxes of other nationalities on a regular basis. It just happens to be Eastern Europeans now along with Islamic peoples. London will cope as it always has. London you could say was created by immigrants - including Scots and the Welsh - and is still growing with them.
Never forget during WW2 many nationalities fled mainland Europe and further afield. We welcomed them to join the fight, and it was especially the Poles and Free French, along with others, who fought hard against the Nazis.
If people now come to Great Britain of their own free will to become, maybe two or more generations down the line, true British citizens to join the majority of us who are ex-immigrants over hundreds of years, so be it!
We, the British, took over many of their countries and lived there, and now they want to be with us again!

PS Also get used to the fact that we are all now a global people who go to other countries like our forebears used to go to towns or cities in their county. The modern world (and transport!!) has created this.
