Silver paint code
« on: 05 February 2013, 16:10:14 »

Hi all.

I need some silver spray paint for the bumper on my mig.  Does anyone know if the mig comes in more than one silver and what the paint code is for them?

Do Halfords sell it?

Many thanks. :y

So is Z147. Open the driver's door and look at the black panel rivetted to the upright. Your paint code will be on there. The Star Silver Halfords have in ready made cans is Star 3. Star 2 is 147 and has a dab of yellow in it so it won't match. There are also numerous shades of each code so go armed with something to match it unless you're painting a bit that's not obvious. A word of warning, halfords mixing service use acrylic paints which are low quality, and if you then come to have a proper respray nasty reactions are a given. I've been through 4 different suppliers and none of them have yet matched Herman's Z147 exactly so don't expect perfection unless you do a whole side and even then odds on it won't quite match the bonnet.

Dont get your paint from Halfords. Its shite.Get it mixed up by a local auto paint factors or similar. Also worth getting a can of "blend" (supplier of silver should be able to advise) to spray around the edges of the area which has just been sprayed to help it blend in with the surrounding paint, unless your spraying the whole bumper.
Also dont forget to lacquer it afterwards.
Finally,your bumper is z147 Kate. :y

Thanks, I'll try and find a proper auto paint supplier.

So the bumper is z147 but the rest of the car is z157. Is that right?

It looks the same to me. It must be my dodgy eyes. ;D

I've painted whole cars before but I always find paint spraying difficult.

Thats right.Imo its difficult to tell the difference between the two by naked eye.At least one door on my car (maybe more, cant remember) is 157,but the car is 147.I cant tell the difference and I dont think many people could. :y

if you want to compare 2 same colors but different shades, the comparison must be done in direct sunlight and from different angles..(excluding shops with artifical sunlight device)

Bang on Cem  :y Z157 gives a golden brown effect at certian angles under Sun, Z147 gives a blue'y grey.
