Hello all 

My first post here so I'll break the ice....

I've owned my Omega MV6 3.0 for around 2 years now, bought standard and quickly upgraded with a full Irmscher bodykit and lotus carlton spoiler (I'll put some pics up sometime) and it looks and drives great. However, I'm now starting to think that with a few subtle yet effective mods I can really bring the cars looks and handling to life, and this is where I need a little bit of advice and wisdom...

- First, I plan to lower the car on new springs (40mm drop from standard ride height).
- Second, I'm planning on using hubcentric wheels spacers (15-20mm either side, 30/40mm wider track)to give the car a wider track, better handling (hopefully) and a meaner look.


So my questions are:

Does anyone have any experience lowering their Omega and if so what, if any, problems were there?

Will the wheel spacers alter the handling of the car in any significant way? Any problems that may arise? Infact any info at all would be helpful on this.

Will the combination of lowering the ride and widening the wheel base (albeit only by 40mm max) give me problems with tyre rubbing etc?


Any past experience/knowledge on either of these subjects would be much appreciated. I'm hoping that these mods will be straight forward and no real problems will arise, although that may be wishful thinking!

handling is a bit better .. I used 20mm thickness to use 5X120 PCD wheels .. no problems so far

and as for lowering the car, personally lowering more than 25 mm is excessive , not practical for daily usage , will require
special/expensive components,and tyres will hit arches in every pothole    so lowering this much (40 mm) is good only on a perfect track..

Lowering 40mm will cause all manner of problems to suspension travel and geometry, you will encounter exessive wear to the inside of the tyres and it may tramline like a train, spacers will make it worse but if you do stay within 10-15mm, suspension feel and ride quality will suffer and become harsh in the extreme. Camber issues as well as toe will mean you might have to fit some kind of adjustabal cams to correct camber, in my mind easier to fit a set of immscher springs and Bilstein B4 shocks as a they are the best combination we have discussed on here. 
Also every time you come to a speed hump you will drag your exhaust over it everytime and that soon becomes a pain in the behind.
40mm wider track may sound like a small amount but can have dramatic effects on the way it rides, not always for the best.

My car is lowered about 30mm if not more, and there's no problem on the normal road, and if you have low profile tires you will destroy the rims at potholes so they're a no no anyway, the only place it was a problem, was on the track in the fast corners
I have fitted 20mm spacers at the rear, there was no difference except for the looks of the car (not fittet on the picture)

In reality, 30mm is probably as low as you want to go if its a road car. Irmscher red springs are ideal, but rare.

B4 seems to be shock of choice with these springs, but B6 and B8 would likely be firmer, if thats what you are after. Note, firmer/lower doesn't necessarily mean better handling.

I'd say you don't want to lower rear as much as 30mm, if a day to day car.


On my facelift, I run Irmscher springs and Irmscher shocks. Irmscher bumpers (front and rear) drag on speed bumps, diff drags on thos small square speed bumps that you normally straddle.

My PFL is Irmscher/GM spring/shock (front) and MV6/B4 at rear. No issues at all.

I use spacers without lowering the car..  .. we measured 235 45 17 with spacers .. and front tyre was very close to the arch when turning .. so I preferred 225.. 
 
imo dont lower than 20-25 mm..  just look at the pictures , you will see that tyres will kiss the arches directly as the spacers push the tyres out..
