Cruise upgrade - hidden cost.
« on: 27 October 2006, 20:24:25 »

Recently upgraded to Cruise & had Tech2 done to enable system but VX want either £13 or £20 + VAT to supply cluch switch to get it to work.

Difference in price apparantly due to switch being Chassis specific - robbers!

If thats for them to fit it as well......sounds ok to me.....even with the difference in price for the different switch.......suprised they didnt say £45 for tech2 work and another £45 to fit the switch as well on top of the cost of the part!

Just been this morning & need the £20 switch (supply only) - but as the nice mechanic refused the bung for enabling the system it doesn't seem so bad.

Apart from clutch switch and the stem/stalk what else is needed before you can get the setup enabled?

If its drive by wire (2.2,2.6,3.2) then it also needs 30 seconds with a tech2 as well as stalk and clutch switch if manual (some manuals already have clutch switch)

Older engines need actuator/ecu, cable, stalk, brake switch (4 pin one), and clutch switch if manual. No tech2 work reqd.

If your car is fly by wire thats it - check this out first.  If FBW then just swap the stalk & connect the additional fly lead to your pre wired loom behind the steering shroud.  Ask nice man with Tech2 to enable instrument software & you're off.  Apparantly its 50/50 as to whether you have a clutch switch already.

Key search under cruise upgrade as there are many threads that may help.

Good luck

So for a mini-facelift 1998 2.5 cd its not just a case of clutch switch, stalk and cable to throttle?

ecu/actuator, cable, stalk, brake switch and clutch switch if manual. About £40 from scrappy. Plug it in and go :)

bolted to inner wing.

it contains the ecu controller, and a stepper motor to pull a 2nd throttle cable.

Plugs into the 10 pin connector clipped to top of drivers side suspension turret.
