Urban Foxes
« on: 13 February 2013, 14:45:33 »

A bit in the news these days, since a baby got bitten. And Boris is calling for a cull.

Loads of 'em where I live, often at the bottom of my garden, but I certainly don't feed or encourage them.

There are many different opinions, Kill and cull 'em, Cuddle 'em (not really), leave 'em alone, hunt 'em etc etc. I don't really care what people think as everyone will have a view. But this one was different, and a bit amusing  . . .

Quite frankly I don't know why people are so suprised.  Even when fox hunting was legal their population was growing in urban areas.  After the ban their population has exploded as they have no natural predator anymore (we killed them all donkeys years ago)

If the public does not want to allow hunting with dogs then another equally (or more) effective method of population control must be implemented, or these types of incidents will only increase.

My personal feeling - licensed hunting, with a suitable high powered rifle outside of breeding season with careful control of the numbers culled.  They must not be eradicated, simply controlled through extensive consensus of the local natural population.  Frankly, the townies need to leave the countryside folk who know what they are doing alone to do what they do best.

If people do not want so many foxes in urban areas, then they should stop being right pigs and stop chucking food waste everywhere.

Like seagulls, and all predators, along with foxes, they only come into our living areas because we feed them so well. ::) ::) ::) ::)

A while ago in suburban London, the Press was full of reports about being overrun by rats, you know,"never more than 10 feet " or whatever.

There were certainly rats where I live, no not some shitehole, a leafy tree lined street. Now no rats whatsoever, but we have got foxes . . . conclusions ?

The problem is so many people believe it - burglaries / robberies - will never happen to them, leaving windows and doors open, with car keys on tables next to those openings.  It is a good job foxes cannot drive as they would soon be off with the family car as well!! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

I'm just the stupid kid, but I recall a discussion with some silly bint from the council when we went to fortnightly collections, and she denied it would cause a rise in fox numbers coming into town. Silly cow, typical council manager, thick as 2 short planks.

The hunts dont kill as many as they did, due to the do-gooders. And they never killed enough anyway.

As to the little brat who got attacked, I'm not sure we've heard the truth yet ;)
