So fairly conclusive then that my backup script was a load of toss....

Suppose I'll have to try harder and write another, better one  :'(

Not a major problem though as the next 4 days I don;t finish work til 02:00hrs so I will let you know how it performs then.

If you had to reboot, that is an issue local to your machine....

That is what I thought but it only ever happens when I am on this site late at night. Never in the day and never on any other site! It may be purely coincedental (is that how you spell it) but it has happened a number of times.
