Didn't JC own a similar Mustang at some point a couple of years ago?If I remember rightly it kept breaking down and after he'd waited for it's delivery in the first place he finished up sending it back for all sorts of problems to be sorted.Personally I always preferred the Dodge Charger R/T to the Mustang.I'm thinking here of the "baddies" car in the Bullit car chase.

Lizzie,
if a '68 Mustang is your dream car, here's a piece of advice: never, ever drive one! A standard one, in good nick drives like a knackered, drum braked 1100 Escort, but with decent performance. If you're brave/stupid enough to use the throttle. That's not to say that some straightforward upgrades won't improve it, but that's more to the level of a 3.0l Capri.

My boss has an '05 Mustang GT, stock 4.6 with a manual box. It looks great from a distance, but when you get close to it, it looks like somebody increased the vehicle's size by 20% before sending the files off to be manufactured. Unfortunately, it drives the same way. It sounds great, but for a car with 260hp, you're left wondering what they're actually doing. It rolls a lot, being softly sprung, but both the handling and ride are poor, largely due to the 3 link live axle propping up the back. The brakes aren't up to the job, and the interior is really shoddy - look at a 15 year old Korean car for a decent comparison. The reason for much of this obvious: when she bought it new, the American sticker price was about $25,000, which at the time might have bought a V6 Hyundai coupe here. That would make for a difficult decision!

Hired a new one 1n 2010 when we were in the USA believe me they are great, the 4.6 is as sweet as a nut they are just great looking cars & they make you feel  good when you drive them, as for the handling I had no problems & we did give it some welly!! I would have one tomorrow wouldn't bother me even if it was a left hooker.

Thanks Nick! :y :y

Yes, it is so often the case in life, and especially with cars, what you imagine something that promises so much but it just fails to deliver ::) ::) :(

I think really I still have a fantasy of having a 1968 Fastback with Steve McQueen inside driving me around! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) :-* :-* :-*

Well, a girl can dream can't she?! :D :D :D :D :D ;)

mustangs are awesome if only for the looks.

of course clarkson will think its rubbish cos everything he drives has a 200k price tag.

and lets be honest, the public can echo clarksons words and say it doesnt drive well... but come on none of us really ever drive like that.

I agree that is the best word to describe their looks awesome , if ever you see one in your rear view mirror I am sure most of you would agree, I  managed at best 19mpg but at £2.00 (approx) a gallon that wasn't a problem .

Being an engineer the Mustang would not cut it.

To many chassis and interior compromises, the only thing that ticks the box is the engine and looks. Thats to much of a compromise for such a vehicle.

As for the VXR8, colour is everything  :y
