The Common Cold
« on: 22 February 2013, 19:31:20 »

At the beginning of this week, I was feeling a bit under the weather. It turned into a mild cold. I didn't think too much of it, went to work as usual, etc. Yesterday mid morning, I thought it had pretty much gone. Nose was all dried up, felt a little more clear headed and alert.

Yesterday afternoon, however, I started feeling really grotty, nose was running more than ever. Finished my shift, went home, brief bath (the steam really helped) then went off to curl up and die in bed.

This morning, had to literally drag myself out of bed for work. Got there, and somehow managed to get through the day.

Tonight, my nose is burning, eyes burning, aching all over my arms and legs, weak, dizzy... meh! I've just realised I've not eaten properly since feeling like this, so just done 3 peices of beans on toast with grated cheese, and am slowly forcing it in.

Dosed up on lemsip max and ibuprofen, also taking vit c and zinc supplements.

I'm at that stage whereby I'm (just) still up and about, and not really unwell enough to be confined to bed, yet feel to cack to do anything other than sit and feel sorry for myself

Tempted to open something a little stronger than a pepsi... alcohol always really helps.. but you suffer twice as much next morning, when you've got a bad cold AND a hangover ;D  :-\

How do you deal with your colds?

Of course, if it turns into man flu, you'll probably die. :(

Alcohol is the remedy mate.  Your mistake is that you assume you will have a hangover in the morning.  Don't stop drinking, you never sober up, thus no hangover!  :y

You know when they say you should rest when you have a cold?  It's to prevent other bugs getting in to your system.

You have another bug different to the one you had first.

That said when I am ill I drink hot water with half a lemon squeezed in to it every moning, avoid running especially in the cold, eat more fruit and drink hot toddies at night.

If I feel one coming on I use that Vicks First Defense, I find it pretty effective.
