Hi guys, I've been busy sorting out the dent on the back of the GLS estate this week. It looked like someone had taken a hammer to it as there were several "dings" in the same area :-/ As those who saw it at the Jockular meet, it was a bit unsightly! Here's how I fixed it!
first pic is the damaged area partially cleaned back to the sound metal around it. next,

I cleaned out the dents with my twist knot wire brush in the grinder and grit blast gun to get rid of a small amount of rust in the dent.

Next, I filled the dents and smoothed back to the surrounding good metal.

High build filler primer was applied over the repaired sections to bring up to level of original paint before applying a couple of coats of primer over the entire panel.

This was then rubbed back until nice and smooth.

Final job was to apply the base coat metalic followed by laquer. I usually get this right first time but I made the mistake of trying out my new spray gun. result; more orange peel than Jaffa and more runs than the London marathon

Still, not a problem, I just put plenty of laquer on then rubbed back to a smooth surface with 1500 grit wet paper before buffing back up with G3 and G10 cutting paste.

I'm pleased with the end result, good colour match too and probably added a couple of hundred quid to the value of the car

I even treated the rest of the car to a good polish today. I'll post some pics of that in the Gallery.
Cheers Jim
