Booked in at WIM tomorrow
« on: 27 February 2013, 13:22:09 »

Hi all.....

Got the gold 2.6 estate booked in tomorrow down the road at WIM. I assume the OOF discount still applies to us. One question, last time I went there, with the blue 2.5, I just paid the discount price. They did not have to do barely anything in the way of adjustment.
However, as I have just had a lot of work done on the gold one, wishbones, discs, etc etc. I assume there would be a hell of a lot of adjusting to do.
If this is the case, does the price start going up in line with how much they have to adjust, or is our price a set price covering all. Hope that makes sense :y

* Mods.... If you feel this should be in Gen Help rather than Gen Discussion, would you please move. :y

In my experience, providing everything moves as it should you pay no extra for any adjustments, no matter how many. If things are seized solid and heat etc are needed to free them, or things need replacing, then you pay for the time and parts involved :)

I often hear this when WIM is mentioned.

Why is it such a regular problem?.

For the same reason as last time this question was asked ;)

In short, because of the number of ball joints and moving "connections" that all have tolerances and play (even when new) which add up :y

They do. And will probably ask you to confirm it. Then will adjust the car around that.

Partly, and also because they ran out of oxy to heat the rear track rods for adjustment. ;)
Do not allow them to fob you off with a poorly adjusted rear end. If the cars rear toe setting means it stears from the rear, then it will never have a straight steering wheel. Although, in Estas case there is no fixing him. His rear end is way past it, going by the pics he insists on sending me. :(

The rear needs to be bang on on the Omega. Even with the torch, they dont always move, hence we recommend WD40ing them daily for a week before, then plusgas on the morning.

I understand that using heat is an MOT fail? But sometimes needs must.

Officially, any evidence of heating a steering or suspension component should be a fail, or it used to be worded that way ::)

I can only assume it is because of the change to the metal's properties which can occur with the use of heat :-\
