My leaning would be towards fuel tank pick up, but as you have brimmed it, that may well cancel that. gravity seems to have an influence, so something moving electrical loom of fuel pipework?

Worth jacking up the vehicle required direction and re test?

Think its suffering a vacuum problem. Checked the vacuum connections,  are the solenoids supposed to buzz? And it seems to be losing vacuum from the carbon canister under the wing or the solenoid that operates it. How does the solenoid /canister work?

Found it... changed the diesel filter and its full.of brown sludge. A fair guess that the tank is too... trying to obtain some 'soltron'.

Quick update... I removed the fuel filter about a month ago and it was full of brown slime... Today I decided to remove the access panel in the boot, and look inside the fuel tank.

I unscrewed the large lock ring with a nylon bar and rubber hammer, and the top half of the sender lifted out. The inner core of the swirl pot / pickup assembly unclips and lifts out. At the base of it is a plastic filter / gauze whick had what looked like a large graphite grey slug wrapped round it... This piece slides off downwards. I cleaned it with some thinners and blew it out with compressed air... and all is well.  :)
