Slow changing autobox
« on: 01 March 2013, 10:55:32 »

Had my tractor 2 years now, never checked ATF in that time. When stopping for ajunction & then driving off  it changes down a couple of gears  with a clunk before moving off. After reading how to change /check ATF ifound PO had rounded off  the filler plug.Wont move.New one ordered.Looks likely i,ll need the chisel.Dealer also quoted £68 + vat for new filter!!! Now i,ve read on here the old filer can be cleaned. Can anyone advise how i do this.I was thinking leave it in a can of diesel overnight,or is there a better way. Thanks in advance.

Wash it out with petrol was the way I did mine :) ATF partial change is a VERY messy job ... but well worth the effort IMHO   :y :y

Worth a try changing the fluid first,  esp. if its black or dirty. Other caused for heavy or delayed changes are sticking solenoids. Affected by operating temp sometimes...
