No, I think the car goes straight up, that is why the jack rolls forward a little when jacking and hence needs a smooth surface.
I remember having to put a couple of paving slabs into a gravel drive, in front of the garage for this reason, few years ago now, house in Hertfordshire, now pulled down for yuppie posh houses.
