Failed, Gear selector

Tried to remove the gearbox selector switch this mornining, and failed miserably. >:(
Weather was cloudy chilly. Got car on ramps, got under, and then the rain and sleet starts.
Eventually got the screws out of the heatshield by which time I am soaked and freezing.
Ok may as well carry on as I cannot get wetter and I still have some feeling in my fingers.
However I could not get the wiring plug away from the gearbox to seperate it. So now I am really
really cold and wet, so got the heatshield back on and gave up, had a hot shower and a cup of tea.
So does anyone know how to get the connector off the gearbox?

2Woody - a spare would be handy however the problem is getting the old one off, as I said I couldn't see how to get the wiring plug away from the gearbox.

TheBoy - Yes 2.2

I will be having another go this weekend weather permitting, but I only have ramps can barely move when I'm underneath.

from looking at the rear of the connector(the one way slot)it looks like it must go forward before you can unplug it  :-\

Yes it cost about £4.00 for the switch cleaner, and an hour to do.
Although if you had a pit or car lift I think it would only take 15 to 20 mins.
