Ipod touch 1st generation
« on: 20 March 2013, 13:19:03 »

Anybody on here got / had one ?

I've just acquired a 32 gig one which I'm hoping to use for playing in the car.

Need to know if they use the standard iPod/ iPhone type plug for connection.
Do these things run on 12 volts or 5 volts ?
Also looking for hardwired modulator to connect it to the car.
Has anybody got one of these they can recommend ?

TIA

they run on 5V through the normal USB cable.  Make sure it's a clean feed though as anything else will eventually fry the board and then it becomes beyond economical repair.

Dave DND is your best bet for advice on modulators but there are plenty of options for playing it's music in your car :y

For hardwired modulators, we have still to find anything that works better than these ones

Would I have to use the 3.5mm jack plug to connect to the iPod or does it come with the "iPod type"  plug for the bottom ?

I was looking at some on ebay (hardwired) that charge the iPod at the same time.
The car ariel wire plugs inline with the unit
Any thoughts on these ?

Dave DND has already commented on hardwired modulators.

The Hardon Karman iPlay tosh is probably the best of the hardwired ones I've used. But TBH no better than the one in Dave DND's link.

Yes, I read dave's post but I would prefer one with a 5 volt output so I can charge the iPod at the same time instead of running a lead from a fag lighter adapter if possible  :)

That one will plug into the 3.5mm jack on the gayPod. The 30pin connector is still available for a 99p ciggy charge lead.

Off topic ...... but can't resist the question  :)

Is there an easy to operate, compact, cheap(ish) DAB radio that would link with that modulator ?? I really would like DAB in the omega, but I don't want to mess about with the OE fit.

The modulator just takes a stereo input, and broadcasts it on low power FM.

So technically, any stereo source should work.

I do possibly have a non-modulator solution, but it needs further work. Gixer has heard the results.

Thought about that myself if I can get the sound quality up a little to make it worth while

Not really suitable, as the only place to fit is in drivers kick panel, which is not ideal for gayPod, and a poor location to transmit to aerial.

From which direction does the ariel come in on a facelift ?
If it comes in from the passenger side, wouldn't it fit near the back of the glovebox ?
It looks like it just needs a switched live.  Either switched or from position 2 on the ignition switch or maybe the switched live to the 2013 (if it will take the current) and the ariel connecting "inline"  :-\
The lead from the unit to the iPod seems about 1 meter long so should reach the centre arm rest area  :-\

Never had a dig around a facelift before so the above may be 'dangle berries'  ;D

I'll have a dig around when i'm under there doing the lpg wiring and see if I can find somewhere.
