Local Wetherspoons Beer price hike!
« on: 20 March 2013, 18:24:40 »

Popped in the local Wetherknives on Saturday only to find they where knocking out Adnams Broadside at 2.09 a pint, yummy!, so decided to pop back last night to get some more, gone from 2.09 to 2.60 a pint, cheeky f*ckers we thought, Bar Staff said it was a pre Budget increase but wouldn't go up any more afterwards. Also bear in mind they normally end their Beer prices with a 9p.

Just heard on the Budget, Beers gone down by 1p a pint, so guessing if I venture in again soon its going to be dropped from 2.60 to 2.59, hmmm

Reckon someone in Head Office had some inside info  :-\

Remember there will be a 20% VAT reduction on the 1p and also the pub's margin if they work this as a percentage.  ???

This sort of thing is just profiteering.

Remember also that your local pub is unlikely to be reducing prices by 1p from Sunday as the duty is paid only when the barrels leave bonded warehousing. In other words, they have already paid at the existing rate of duty. Conversely, when pubs put prices for alcohol and tobacco on the day of a budget, they too are profiteering since their stock is bought with pre-budget duty rates.  ::) ::)

I dare say most pubs won't bother passing on the 1p per pint :-X ::) I know the brother in law's pub ( where I normally go) have said if you're that desperate then ask for a rebate!

Biggest bonus for me is the 2k tax break on employer's NI :y

Even 2.60 a pint for Broadside seems cheap to me.

I would guess that the lower 2.09 was some kind of short term promotion. It worked, you went back

So why cut the price of beer and not petrol , i cant see people drinking the same amount of beer in ltres as fuel they would put in the car  ??? It just dont add up , surely 1p off a litre is going to help more people in the long run  >:(

This ^

We don't drink enough beer for it to be a significant cost to the treasury, unlike fuel, but it gives us a warm feeling to know that, if we have 8 pints a night, every night of the week, we'll be saving 56p a week. ;D

In addition, pubs are closing left, right and centre at the moment and they are a source of employment. This will hardly reverse that trend but it, and the scrapping of the escalator are a step in the right direction. Shame the minimum pricing didn't go through, though, as stopping supermarkets selling booze below cost would have been a good shot in the arm to pubs.

And yes, that's not a bad price for a pint of Broadside. Very few places round here are below £3 a pint these days. Luckily home brew is 40p a pint. :D

Very unlikely. The oil/fuel companies would simply not pass the reduction on the to customer.
