Energy crisis looms ever larger
« on: 21 March 2013, 17:24:56 »

From Reuters, today at 16.17:

(Reuters) - Britain is grappling with a potential gas supply crisis as a late blast of winter depletes stored reserves, coal power plants close and pending maintenance in Norway threatens to further squeeze supply.

BBC, today at 15.24:

The boss of the energy firm SSE has warned that "there is a very real risk of the lights going out" in Britain.

But...

Energy minister John Hayes denied the government was being complacent, saying he was confident that its approach, combined with the responsiveness of the market, would provide secure supplies.

Oh well, our minister is "confident", so all is well.  ;)

Think of the money we'll save on our energy bills. Besides, freezing to death in the dark never did me any harm when I was a kid.

Of course he is. He's got a background in sales and politics a probably doesn't have a clue what a Joule is, so he'd know. ;D

I am really saddened to see how rapidly our once great country is being run into the ground by useless inept politicians!  What on earth are we leaving for our children and grandchildren?

We don't have to worry about our children. As soon as Iran perfects a nuclear weapon it's curtains. ;D

Looks like a couple of thousand for a generator capable of running a house with no cut-backs, and they run on petrol.. Diesel gennys cost even more.

I think I'll hook a dynamo up to the treadmill - I can get fit and power my home at the same time, and I won't need heating.. ;D
