We make our own bread but with a Bread Maker. Basically for a white loaf it's :- Yeast ( Dove Farm Quick Yeast, or similar), Strong White Flour, Salt, Sugar, Butter and Water.  :y :y

If making bread to bake in the oven, use ordinary yeast, Allison - yellow tin, not the fast breadmaker yeast in the green tin. You still need to use strong white or wholemeal flour.

got a notepad of recipies, what sort do you want to make?  Four tips are
get as much water in as you can (pull back when it starts collapsing), this makes it rise more,
buy some Vit C from a health food shop and add tiny amounts to wholemeal flour insteadof having to add some white.
Minimise the salt this helps it rise more.  Try unsalted bread it is an acquired taste and nothing like ordinary bread.
To make french tasting bread use 50% plain flour.

Self raising flour, buttermilk, spoonful of baking soda (slightly more makes it lighter) and some salt, mix it up until its nice and sticky then bake in the oven about 180 until it starts to brown. Let me know if you want more details. Ps this will make whats called soda bread or irish soda bread
