Revs upto 2K when pumping the brakes?
« on: 24 March 2013, 10:51:40 »

Hi All

I pumped my break pedal a few times yesterday and the revs built up to 2K.

Surely this isn't correct, what would the reason be please?

Cheers

Dave

Thanks Kevin

Could this also be the answer to excessive fuel consumption that doesn't show on the MID?

Mine says 18.0 to .06 but the gauge and stops for fuel indicate 6/7 mpg.

MOT's up at the end of this month...yikes!

Shouldn't leave it too long - had the servo seals go on my TR4A and there was a great cloud of whiteish smoke out the back as all the brake fluid went through the engine and was burnt off - result no brakes although handbrake was good up to 40mph!

Don't know about the Omega, but got some for the TR - not TR parts as the servo was off a BMC land crab.

Ere whilst I'm here. Does the MAF have an earth for itself? I've done another post relating to this in http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=112311.0

Thats the first brake servo failure on an Omega I have ever heard of so second hand is a good source, beware that there are at least two types (the facelift is certainly different as it has a power stop servo)

As for the brake fluid ingestion, that would require the master cylinder to fail in a big way plus the master cylinder to servo seal so very unlikely on this setup

If you also have MAF related issues bear in mind that the servo could be leaking air at all times and this constitutes an unmetered air leak. Fix the servo first and you may find all is well.

As for diagnosis, stop the engine and see if you get a few pumps of the pedal before the assistance is gone. Check the servo feed pipe for leaks as well. This can often chafe on things if it's not been routed carefully. Does sound like the servo itself to me, though.

It has an additional valve which opens when you hit the brake pedal hard/fast giving greater assitance and improved stopping distances
