Don't waste your time with F11 you'll be sat there tapping it all day.  The correct (and frankly well known by anyone with decent PC knowledge) key to press during boot to recover Windows is F8.

Well I ran a systems diagnostic check via F2 which confirms the Hard Drive is fubarred, took less than 5 seconds of what should have been nearly a 3 hour test accorging the the screen......

Now question is, new Hard Drive or new Lap top, gonna have a look at some prices, and hope I have some stuff backed up on CD........ ::) :-[ :-[

Miss Vamps is charging me for using her's, identical to mine, just not sure how much yet.... ;) ;)

New hard drive around £80 for a really good one .. 5 minutes to change :) 40 minutes to reload windows BUT, BIG BUT, if you didn't "make" a copy of the rescue partition offf the old HD you WILL need a proper windows install disc and you may have to search for drivers off t'internet ... as your "rescue" partition is not available on the new HD .. :( :(

Not a difficult thing to do, but can be time consuming unless you've done it before and have a system (and some windows disks .... :) :) :) )

F11 on an HP laptop takes you to the HP restore menu, allowing you to reinstall Windows from the hidden partition.  F8 takes you to the safe mode etc menu.  I had my own computer/IT business mate ;)

Read Vamps later post - if HD furbared then a system reinstall would not go ahead.  Provided rest of laptop ok (and still meeting owners requirements in terms of speed etc), then a new HD is the way to go.  Only problem is you will need to get an operating system (should be able to buy an oem with a hard drive ourchase - legally), so extra cost involved as your copy is on the hidden partition.  Unless you use Pirate Bay (definately illegal and not recommended ::):y

Oh well, cheaper that a new lap top, just been looking at the price of an Ipad, thought may have been able to do a deal with Miss Vamps.... :D :D

It won't be taking me 5 minutes or 40 this is going to be one of those Jobs where all I am going to do is put my hand in my pocket...... :-[ ::) ::) :)

Shame Mike - if you were nearer, could have fitted a new HD, and set it up on Windows for you, all for the cost of a new HD.

Don't say that. The tight northern git will drive down and eat you out of house and home.
