Chip tuning my omega 2.5 td manual
« on: 01 April 2013, 12:26:26 »

Hi all.m
Recently I have phoned a couple of tuning specialists here in the north east.
some say with mine being the 2000 model (xreg) it needs chip tuning. Instead of a remap
one of the company's said they can't get hold of the chip set for my car so they can't do it.
While the other said they'd fit a sort of plug and play box in and adjust thing through that but I would be better off getting one for cheaper off eBay.

now I'm confused with it all and need some help.

has anyone had one of these plug and play boxes fitted??
Which one did you buy? And did it fit to the fuel pump or did it plug into the common rail.
and lastly did it make your car more drivable?

Or does anyone know where I can get a chip set I can have installed into my ecu.
I think this would be a better way of changing the characters of my car that I need addressing.
Is there anyone on here who can point me in the right direction
Cheers Gary

the only way to do it is via an ECU chip, and it's very worthwhile!

That would suit me fine. Do you know where I can get it done by any chance?

And yes, I chipped my old TD auto, and it transformed the car's drivability. Still no race winner, but a much nicer car to drive.

Ooooohh, likely a 427 ECU. The best IMHO (or at least the quickest TD I've driven was Terry the Chipman's 427 TD estate).

Omegatoy's 214 TD estate, with all its tweaks, went pretty well as well, but not as quick as the Chipman's

I can put you in touch with the guy who supplied mine, and a few other members.

I think he charges £70, so long ago, I can't remember  :-[

If interested, PM me you contact details, gearbox type (I will forget again ;D), and the ECU type (probably 427, but you need to visually double check yours), and I will get the guy to contact you.

It will shred your autobox. Omegatoy got about 100 miles from his before chewing the auto to bits, I got through 2 AR25s within a couple of months.

You need to change your autobox to an AR35 first...  ...or convert it to manual. I don't think the TD and an auto is a particularly good combo.
