Has anyone had trouble on ebay when selling something

I sold my Stihl saw worth £400+ on ebay - worked absolutely fine although just had it along time. Described as well as I could. Received message from buyer saying it doesnt work like it should, complained of oil leaks etc and said it wasnt as I described. A ebay case has been open etc. Just wondering what anyone thinks? What if I refund him and he returns it broken or doesn't return it?

ebay will make him return it by recorded post and then, when they see evidence it was delivered, make you refund him.  It's arguable whether you should pay for the cost of him returning it.

If you know it was in good condition and work as it should, call eBay's bluff 
Some muppets will try anything to get there money back IF they change there mind

the buyer has to send it back to you ,you do not have to refund the postage
unless you are a trader. had it happen to me   cheers

will let you know what happens. yes there is always some muppet complains.
he probs used it and decided he dont want it. thats the trouble when you post stuff.
sold two other items, but they collected from my house and no hassle.

We don't sell much on Fleabay,but we have had two bad experiences with buyers saying that they had'nt received their items and obviously we've had to refund their money. SO..now it's collection only,no ifs no buts

The end result will depend on how it was paid for, I am guessing pay pal if posted

If that's the case, due to buyer protection many tend to take advantage of this and request refunds when they simply don't want what they won

A not as described is the most common out, they will always side with the buyer in these instances

Ebay does tend to side with the buyer. However it has changed recently, a savvy seller can get any feedback removed, I don't bother leaving it anymore unless service is exceptionally good or bad. Stupid move by ebay, feedback system is their lifeblood.

Hopefully Google will make a move into online auctions, I suspect they are planning it which is why their 'google shopping' has been starved of investment and promotion. 


There is always ebid.co.uk or amazon, both pretty poor by comparison though.

egay's time has been and gone. Its absolutely full of retards now. Feedback has been broken for years, and they do not act on blatant rule breaking, even when presented with the evidence.


I avoid the place like the plague now. I made an awful lot of money buying and selling, for the effort I put in, back in the days when you could sell refurbed ADSL routers for £70+, and a box of 25 knackered ones were £20. I also made money by not being lazy, and going to car boots, buying stuff to slap onto egay for the lazy 'tards in society. Then for the last 6 or 7 years, listing IT stuff that I didn't own, and when it sold, going down my local IT supplier, buying it and posting it, as egay retards would pay well over the odds, because they assume egay is cheap. It ain't, and hasn't been for about 10-12yrs. Gave it all up about 3yrs ago, not sold a thing, buy the occasional piece, which invariably gets sent back for being shite/faulty/fake.

replied to him. stating that the saw worked perfectly fine. and for him to return
in the same condition. he is  saying he will take me to court if dont sought it by the 17th april!
what a tosser. what do i do?

Tell him to return it at his cost within 14 days or he will be deemed to have accepted it.

Via the Ebay case that he's opened, just politely reply that he needs to send it back, and if its in the condition that it was sent out, you will refund him.

have been reading this with interest. presume that the afor mentioned saw was two stroke,(don't know of a four stroke chainsaw) in which case where would the oil be coming from, the chain oiler, excess oil in the fuel mix. strikes me that they wanted a dry toy not a pro saw. because if I found a saw that was oily I would think that it had always been well oiled and not been run dry at any time !!

Keep copies of all correspondence with this chap.  I expect the talk of court action is bluff, but keep copies in case.

The final straw for me was selling my last Omega, the first buyer wasn't willing to proceed with the sale as I have sold 4 cars over a period of 18 months and was clearly a trader ?
