when to replace glow plugs

as above, i have a 2.2 dti vec b and usually in the morning it takes abit more turning over to get it going, i do wait untill the glow plug light has gone out, and when it does start it lets out a puff of blue smoke, only does this first start of the day usually. just wondering if it needs new glow plugs

  You can do a double "glow" by turning off after the light goes out and turning on again. Have to do that on my mig at the moment as mine need changing. Got them but no time to replace yet.

would new plugs solve this or is it more to do with leak of pipes?

If your leak off pipes are going you will find that with car facing downhill after a few hours stopped it will start easily, however try the same thing with the car facing uphill and it will be a bitch to start :y

If the double (or triple) glow plug attempts before start improves the situation, thats normally pretty conclusive ;)

tried this attempt and worked a treat, the triple attempt made it start a tad to fast !  ;D
which glow plugs are best ? there is plenty sets for £20 on ebay but how good are they?
the branded bosch etc are abit more expensive

NGK or Beru should be fine. Not necessarily from egay, as there is an awful lot of fake shite on that site. Worth trying your local factors.

They weren't too expensive from the dealers IIRC  ;). Sister-in-laws Astra 1900 was around £15, my old Astra's was about £10

was qouted £29 today 4 a set of ngk's from local motor factors

replaced them today, 3 of them come out fine however glowplug no 1 just keeps turning in the hole, its not snapped im told,  i know it will probably be fine with 3 but want the job done right! what would be the next action for this ?
