Hermes is definitely off my list of couriers. The faulty USB stick cost approx 11euros and took ELEVEN days to get from Austria to Spain. The Spanish end only took three days amazingly. Where the hell was it all that time?

I looked at the tracking and it just didn't get updated after day three.

Winged god of tortoises. ;D ;D ;D

All overnight/next day services are based on the fundamentals that

If the shipment is of a business critical nature, and there is any detriment to the end user in the event the shipment is not delivered please utilise alternate services

The service is always sold on the basis cost is the primary factor, not service

For 6 quid say, your shipment goes on a hub and spoke network from you to the processing depot, processing depot to the hub, hub to the receiving/depot then either on to the van for delivery or from the delivery depot to a stand alone hub then to the delivery driver if a remote area

Having been a GM for a provider in the past and now a manager for the largest courier provider in the UK, believe me I have seen it all, most now run at a 99% success rate. When I started out 12 years ago when I left school the best at the time APC was 96.5% it always improving  ;)

Well that all sounds very good.

It cost me 11.80 euros (about ten quid) courier Austria to Spain. I posted it signed for mail 4.10 euros and it got there in three days from Spain using our equivalent of Royal Mail.

To send it back via courier to China was going to be 67 euros. Used Spanish mail certified service 11 euros.
