Broken down!
« on: 19 April 2013, 09:00:17 »

Just coming back from school run and car started to make a weird rattle!
Have pulled in and think I'll need recovery, as it doesn't sound too healthy and I'd be loathe to try and coax it home.
Did the pedal trick and have 0300 and 0302 misfire codes.

Bu@@er  :(

Car starts but is very rough. More than a misfire I think ....

Aux belt is ok and no obvious fluid leaks. Any way of visually checking cambelt?

I've no tools with me atm to check unfortunately, though from previous experience I haven't known oil in the wells to sound so rough. Certainly no leaks over the heat shield or visible alongside the coil pack.

Recovery guy thinks a plug has been blown out on passenger side, which would tie in with fault codes I guess. Be interesting to see ........  :-X

Guess he was right  :(
On removal of the plenum I can see the coil pack is broken at plug 2 and the plug seems to be lying loose, though upright behind the boot. Won't know how much other damage has been caused until I strip it a bit further.

I hope it has just worked loose rather than stripped the thread :-\ even if it has it is saveable with a timesert being fitted!

I don't know! All I can think of is that it as worked itself loose. Is that possible even if not initially tightened correctly  :-\
Compression has forced it out out of the well, breaking the coil pack into two parts at that end  :-X

I can get a new Bosch pack for £100 tomorrow. A cheaper brand is £60 delivered from ECP but that'll be next week. Probably better with the Bosch?
