any one help me make up my mind about my 1999 elite
« on: 29 April 2013, 12:33:34 »

hi as most you know from my post i had min pop its aux belt and tentioner  and radiator

after i fixed all that was still pissing water found a blown hbv to coolant bridge hose fixed that

whail i was at found a vacuum res on muiltiram was busted fixed that and all vacs

thing is since then engine in running best it ever has  its only done 105 thousand

and its actually getting 30mpg on motorway if you take it easy now and much more punch low down cam belts and water pump been done

its had abs ecu done crank sensor new wish bone new pipe cam cover been done prity much everything
only thing that  needs doing is a few counsel bulbs

i love my miggy body work in mint bar bit of rust on bottom corner of back passenger and arches need doing other than that its lovely and scuff on frount spliter

thing is im paranoid about head
since aux belt fiasco
ive done about 500 miles

still losing tiny bit of water bu not much 1/4 of header tank in few hundred mile some of it could have been air but there a drip somewhere

no smoke
don't apear to be oil in water dip stick is fine
no manaze in dipstick and oil seems fine bar need a change soon

but mayo in oil filler neck is worst that its ever been iv been doing quite a few long trips
ie coast luton to south end
luton to oxford shire yesterday

iv been wiping it and re checking all the time but still it seemed more that it ever has since if had car
yesterday it was a  better tiny bit in there when i got back from oxford

the wishfully part say well maybe it need a oil change an since it running more efficient  since i found vacuum link it just a bit of condensation

and how can it run that well if its going on head

so im just not shaw what to do and am a bit paranoid if head ok id like to sort arches
fit and spray new splitter fix and spray bottom of door and it mint again only got two tiny stone chips on bonet then

if it aint ill get shot
just wish i could figger out a way to be Shaw it aint the start of head going

Have a sniff test done on the header tank?
Have you got GM oil in it?

just got  grarage to do sniffer test and it dint change coulur

so im guessing gasket must be ok

as for presure testing coolant iv not yet but i got a compressor so ill have to find a spare cap

so far re leek new radiator top hose there a not long new hbv in there and a new hbv to coolent bridge hose put on last week

i changed heater matrix as well after it burst in style few mouths back

chucked a couple of bottles in there of bright blue food die as well

still cant see naff all coming out anywhere

as head seems ok i can live with a drip/small leak but would be nice to find it
be more conclusive proof head is fine but there want no color change on sniff test

i did look at oil cooler plate but that seem fine when done hose to coolant bridge last week

im half tempted to chuck a bit of rad weld in for now but for peace of mind id like to know where it leaking from

Mine used to leak from an o ring at the back of the engine, a steal pipe runs in there.

Could be the coolant transfer pipe "0" ring seal at back of head as mentioned.

Its abit of a pain to get at and as with most things at the back of the heads requires loads pulling apart first.I foud it easier when I replaced mine to almost kneel on the front slam panel and lean over, but still requires a fair level of dextresity  ;D for the sake of a rubber "0" ring

A weep from the headgasket at the rear of bank 2 is not uncommon.

Another cause of continuous, slow, coolant loss is corrosion of the coolant transfer pipe. Either pinholes in the pipe or corrosion on the outside of the pipe acting as a wick where the top hose slips on.

Also worth checking the heat exchanger cover plate and block & cylinder head core plugs (if you can get to them....)

dint think of core plugs

one thing i need to check when i done hbv to coolant bridge it was a bit of a bodg up as

it had split at bridge end right at hose clip i had some warter pipe with same internal  diameter but its was to shaped to use without it kinking

being in a rush to sort as i needing transport and rest of hose looking fine i just cut a inch or so off end and put back on
so it could be coming out there but cant really run it to see

so maybe if get the right one from dealers and have another look and while im in there pressure test it

buy the way which is bank two  :-[
driver or passenger side

wish i knew i news some one woth one them felxble  things
