3.0 V6 No Power following start-up
« on: 01 May 2013, 08:50:38 »

Hello,

My car starts fine from cold but idles lumpy. When I try to drive off there is virtually no power.

I liken it to when cars had a manual choke and you forgot to pull it out.

A hundred yards down the road, struggling to get some speed, the car becomes gradually more responsive. After a mile of so the car appears to run fine - albeit a little lumpy.

I have a fault code for the crankshaft sensor but have replaced it twice with sensors from the Main Dealer.

Any thoughts? :-\

Many thanks,

Andy

usual suspects are the DIS pack, HT leads and spark plugs.  But if it gets better as the car warms up it could be water in the plug wells.

Are you sure it's still showing code 19?  I would be very surprised at a triple failure of crank sensors :-\

I wondered that - maybe a 31 showing ;)

There is no water nor oil in the plug wells.

The fault is only present when the car is started when cold. I can only liken it to when cars had a manual choke.

Idle is not too bad but when you select gear and press the accelerator there is no power and the engine becomes lumpy.

It takes a good few hundred meters of this before she appears to 'wake up'.

Any ideas? ???

Cheers

It is also showing Fault Code: 19 despite trying two new crankshaft sensors. :'(

It is also showing Fault Code: 19 despite trying two new crankshaft sensors. :'(

Were they both genuine VX ?? pattern ones can cause problems .... :(

I have now fitted a new Idle Control Valve (ICV) and it appears to have solved the problem. :y

As for the crankshaft sensors - they were both genuine Vauxhall parts bought from the dealer.

Would running with this fault code cause any problems to the engine?

The engine does run a little rough - could a faulty crankshaft sensor cause this? ???

Many thanks,

Andy

Didn't someone (Debs?) get the wrong type of crank sensor once. Something about the nose not being long enough to trigger reliably.

If it truly is temperature related then what about the ECU's coolant temperature sensor? Might be that it's not getting enough enrichment from a cold start because the sensor is telling lies.

When it's gutless, is it still running smoothly, or is it misfiring?

I take it it's not the gearbox starting off in 3rd?

Where is the coolant temp sensor?  I will check it and report back.

What I did notice, when the old ICV was fitted, was that the temperature gauge took a while to come up. With the new one fitted, the car has pulled away much, much, better and the temp gauge came up much quicker.

The new ICV appears to have solved the problem. The old ICV left the car gutless and running like a bag of hammers. The car runs much smoother now.

A brand new genuine thermostat was fitted only recently and this is working fine.

The car's autobox is not pulling away in third.

The persistent fault code: 19 does worry me. :-\

Many thanks,

Andy :y

I remember seeing a car before that had a 19 that wouldn't go away and all sorts of idle issues that suggested an ICV problem. Not sure if it ever got fixed.
