Uhhm. I think it's a good idea, i certainly wouldn't mind having a look for someone, so long as they don't blame me/you when it's not what was expected or it breaks down ::)

I have mentioned this before, I would happily look at a car for a member, but as Sir Waspy siad, there would have to be a no blame agreement. Better than buying blind though, I know from experience. :( A test drive for the Omega is, imho, a must. :D

I agree better than buying blind but as said there should be no repercussions for the viewer if it turns out to be a lemon.

Seems a good idea to me too, however you could see something as 'ok' and someone else could see it as a shed! etc.

I got my Omega from ebay to a degree (phoned the chap up, then arranged a deal outside of ebay - a bit less than his BIN price too!)

I had a few photos of it, and that was it.

Went on the train, Handed over the cash, phoned insurance company, and then drove home (all 200+ miles of it, In one go too!)

I remember the car feeling a fair bit bigger than the Vectra to drive, however 10 mins in, and I was used to it!  :y

I'd look for anyone who need me to.

The map may be useful for this too. :y

I'll quite happily go and look, on the no blame condition, and will even collect the buyer from the station if required and convenient!!  :y :y

As an aside, mine came from eBay, blind!! Emailed the chap, not really expecting any luck, and offered him my 1989 RRC 3.5V8 LPG converted as a swap. We exchanged several emails and phone calls, and about 50 photo's and we agreed the swap. I just had to drive the 253 miles to his house to do it!! Off I went and now pleased as punch! I wish I'd known about you guys though because I'd have felt much better knowing what an independant person thought about the Miggy!  ;) ;)

I understand the "blame" aspect, that is why some of the more knowlegable among us could write a standard check list that can be used when looking at a car, if the checklist has mint good fair boxes to tick, at the end of the day the buyer would have a bit more info on a car that they would usually have no other means of examining, like myself, while i am not a mechy i do know what to look for when buying a car, with the check list along with the sellers description they will have more info to decide weather to bid.
any one fancy writing a check list????? :question :question

I think this is a good idea, but has a few problems .. ie .. one man's "mint" is another man's "fair" - depending on experience and expectation .

What could be done is a basic "check list" of things to check, with a list of things to photograph, as most folks now have digi-cameras.. even on their phones, and its easy to e-mail piccies.

The idea being to do away with "subjective" opinions and try to make the list as "factual" as possible ???

my 2.35 p's worth (inc VAT)

:)
