P1700 & 1780 codes & spanner light ?

Hi guys,
             2 codes keep appearing after being cleared P1700  & P1780  on a friends  2.2 petrol CD saloon.  Car seems very under powered . Also the engine is very  very lumpy on cold start up, clears & smooths out after a minute or so , but has an occasional miss/hesitancy on tick over . Also has a loud ticking/clicking from cold which disappears completely after about 2 mins running . I think this is an exhaust manifold leak which seals as it warms up

In motion, flooring  the pedal brings in kickdown but spanner light comes straight  on . Switch off engine & re start  . . the spanner light stays off until you floor it again while in motion .

No spanner light comes on if you rev the engine while in P  or N . engine revs freely to the red line  while in P or N .

Could this be the cam sensor causing it's confusion to the auto box  that I have read about on here somewhere ?

If its cam sensor, you will get P0340 error code as well......and it usually shows itself after starting with a hot engine.

As for the the ticking.....could be exhaust manifold studs snapped.....could also be a lazy lifter.

So i think you have two probs here.....probably is exhaust manifold, as that is common on a 2.2....and probably cylinder one, i think, cylinder nearest the front of engine.

I dont think its cam sensor, for the other fault, as you would be getting P0340. Not sure what to suggest tbh.....apart from check throttle body and check for air leaks...

I would ignore g/b codes tbh, unless a problem with g/b.....iirc they are communications timeout errors

Already checked for air leaks & did a recent throttle body clean . The small hole in the side of the body was completely blocked . Car seems to tick over better since that was done .But runs a rough as hell from cold .

Ticking noise is coming from the exhaust manifold area at the side . seems to be directly under the heat shield  :-\

If the Auto box has a fault will this bring the spanner light on ?

Also forgot to say that there is no   EML on . . . just the spanner one

Owner says car has been down on power ever since a local garage done a cambelt & water pump change .
Guessing this could  well be cam timing  issue as I think Tunnie suggested in a previous post when codes were showing a misfire on cylinder 2

Well in that case, i think first port of call, would be getting the cam belt timing checked by someone that knows what their doing  :y

Removing the Exhaust heat shield will probably reveal a crack in centre of the manifold,a well known fail on the 2.2 unfortunately :(
