Exhaust manifolds....
« on: 06 May 2013, 19:42:05 »

Hi peoples!

Although I've had a nice long weekend and I have done some to my car, I still need to change my exhaust manifolds...

Has anyone got any tips?
Do I need to remove the coolant pipe on the drivers side?

Any help please as I want st start on it as early as I can... Plus I hope to change my cam cover seals.... If my sealant is in???

drivers side does require the metal coolant pipe to come out, new studs and nuts are a must! I believe the passenger side is a tad trickier :o

reckon it's easier to remove head--than to remove manifold on pass side :'(

Oh bugger! I do have studs and nuts but, is it hard to get to the coolant pipe fixings?
Also on the list is the vent box so I can do that at the same time....
From the look of it, I thought the passenger side would be the easy side???

use the sheet metal gasket ..  and if you are planning to keep the car for long period, doing both at a time with heads out is easier..

depending on your daily usage the passenger side will also give up sooner or later .. mine took 1.5 year  :-\

then the headgaskets start to leak :-X

When you say give up, what do you mean?
ATM, I'm not using it so I have time to work on it... Just don't want to... :-/
I have read plenty that the HG almost never go???
Anyway, I know this will open a can of you know what but...
Will this do for the HG'S? Plus a few seals...

Why are you changing them out of interest? it has been known for misdiagnosis on manifold leaks, mine was actually the downpipe gasket leaking!

I've never done a passengerside one but the Omega Oracle (MarkDTM) says it's easier to do from underneath ;)

Just had a look and it does look very possible to go out through the bottom...
I'm changing it because it is deffinately leaking and also fitting the 3.2 manifolds.
I thought it was the down pipe because I have had problems with them fitting but on removal for the ??? Time, there is no soot Mark to indicate a leak... Plus I can feel it if I start the car from cold and stick my hand down th side of the head by No6 port.
Also did the tube trick....
I'll let you know how it goes.... Fingers crossed!!!

it will leak ..

and HG almost never go is against the matters nature ;D

if previous owners neglected changing coolant, it will start to leak earlier .. its just a matter of time and your use obviously.. I can say generally their firerings stay intact but it starts to lose from other areas..

Passenger side is a from below task.

You need to remove the B-Bolt to allow the dipstick to be eased out the way, then pop off the manifold head shields and the front pipe.

If all the nuts/Studs come out then its not to bad a job, if not then it get tricky.
