Bleed done and there didn't seem to be any air in there, not losing any coolant either or its very very little if I am. Hand on pipe and it was ice cold for a good 5 minutes or more then heat all of a sudden though the temp hand still hadn't moved even after a few minutes of the hot coolant coming through.

The stat is operating as it should from what you have described (could possibly be sticking slightly open or not but sounds ok...good?). Maybe it is worth flushing the heater matrix as per Webby's suggestion. The temp gauge is not necessarily accurate, have your temperature readings changed recently or is it the heater issue that has flagged your issue? Just for info, my stat had failed and the warm up was gradual, no rush of heat. Hope this makes sense, do shout if not.

If the heating blows hot when set to "Hi" but not under usual circumstances, then there's nothing wrong with the cooling system and matrix. The climate panel is not calling for hot air for some reason. Probably a failed temperature sensor somewhere. Does the outside temperature indication read accurately?

All inputs to the climate panel can be verified with a Tech 2.

Yeah the outside temp seems to be near enough, I'm not getting outrageous readings or anything. I'll maybe try getting it on tech2 then to check if there is something wrong although pedal trick is showing no codes at all. The engine temp used to sit around 85 most if the time its only really the last week or so that its decided to stay below 80. Doesn't seem to affect the fuel consumption as the average hasn't changed at all, so might just leave it for a while. Think I'll flush the heater matrix and possibly coolant as well anyway but I might leave the stat and transfer pipe for now.

hi i drive a 3.2 estate and have similar issues to this my temp never rises past 80 when driving on open road but will rise slightly if stationary have a new stat waiting to get it stripped and fitted but vx didnt even supply the new o ring seal for the genuine stat so get it before i jump in, checked the temp via plug in obdII unit and was reading 78 while driving, so guage was accurate let you know results later cheers eric

You'll need two for the transfer pipe too, in fact, it'd be a good idea to buy another transfer pipe so that when you lose patience with trying to separate yours from the 'stat, you'll not feel so bad when you destroy it because you'll have a nice new shiny one to use instead.   :y :y

Temp should be in the middle of the gauge, 75 is too cool.  :y

Sounds like a lazy stat  :)

Mine has this problem, too.

If only the stat was more accessible. :-\

Sounds like mine[although the heaters work properly on mine]but only last week it returned 34.6mpg on a 450 mile round trip,so if it's using more fuel than it should what would I be getting by changing the 'stat?

I don't think it has affected the fuel consumption on mine at all tbh. The overall avg is still the same as its always been, up and down .1 or .2 now and again but nothing much.
