....

Agreed. Any lanes HGVs are allowed to use will be fully occupied by them, due to their love of 5 mile overtakes with a sub-MPH speed difference. ::)
 ....

Agreed. Like when they use lanes 1 2 & 3  >:( on the M62 going to White Rose Land from Rochdale, leaving just lane 4 for the rest of us Plebs  >:(

I can assure you that autobahns with less traffic are equaly as lethal.

Having driven a £100 Senator at speeds beyond 140mph on a quieter section north of Munich and experiencing some old tart ina Golf pulling out in front......

Driving an arctic at 56mph come up behind a slower truck, look in mirror and road behind clear, by the time you've pulled out there's a BM or Merc behind flashing and hooting....   :o  ::)

Sounds about right. Also part of the reason why so much road in Germany is single file only for HGVs, they can only go as fast as the slowest truck. Must drive 'em nuts.  ???

Something I think should be used over here between certain hours on major routes (like the A14 etc).....the same as on four lane plus sections where lorries should only be able to use the first two
Yes, many of Germany's autobahns are dual carriageway where there are speed limits and HGV's are not allowed in the outside lane.  Periodically the restriction will be lifted to allow trucks to overtake and often these stretches become 3 lanes. It's a good system, if a bit frustrating when driving a HGV and stuck behind a venerable Bulgarian truck!  ::)

On one trip across the Fatherland I was driving a 7 1/2 tonner and the outside lane weight limit was 3 1/2 tonne, as I was empty and the unladen weight of my truck was 3 1/2 tonnes, I reasoned that I was OK to use the outside lane.  :-\  The locals didn't share my point of view and several got quite irate!  ::)  The sight of mulleted and mustachioed Germans jumping up and down was quite amusing!!  ;D

Was a passenger in a brand new Mazda 626 driving to Berlin from Wreitzen in the 90s. The guy was an absolute maniac. I don't know what speed we were doing because when I wasn't peeking out from between the fingers over my eyes, I was worrying about the lump in my breeks!!
All I know was it was very farking fast!
I'm sure we won whatever race he had entered us for  ;D

Drove up to Berlin quite a few times long before the wall came down - no chance of driving quickly in East Germany in those days - had to report to various checkpoints at fixed times along the route you were given - and you couldn't be late or early!!

Even worse driving on English plates

Spent 13yrs in Germany working for Her Majesty, need to drive like the natives. Been doing 140mph and all I can see in my mirror is the windscreen of the car behind, also been passed doing the same speed and had to look at my speedo to see if I was still moving. :-[
