Fiesta Mk5 1.8 TDdi - What a day!!
« on: 16 May 2013, 22:45:57 »

I bought one of these as a cost saving run around a few weeks ago. Well what a hoot! It's great to drive, holds the road well, comfy, always starts first time, good gearchange, and is incredibly punchy!!

Very little turbo lag, and an easy 55+mpg everywhere I go *

* As long as I keep off the turbo a little, which I'm struggling to do if I'm honest!!

Today I did a few jobs. I replaced a rear quater panel (not a bad job) and changed the fuel filter.

I filled the new filter full of diesel, to aid starting. reconnected the fuel lines.

Do you think the blasted thing would go again? Not for love nor money. self bleeding my backside..

Thankfully.... easy start was my friend!! Ran it on the stuff for a short time, when it decided to run off it's own steam!

Quality car :y

Yes. You should have used a squirt or two of that well known Australian fuel additive. The one called 'Start Yer bastard'. ;D ;D ;)

Ether does a lot of damage to engines, it has no lube properties, ignites very early in the compression stroke and puts extreme pressure on the rings, rods and pistons.

It is truely the spray of the devil....

Thanks for the tip Mark - it's genuinely something I've not used before and I wasn't sure entirely of its drawbacks.
That said, it's a 10 year old fiesta, I figured a few sprays of the stuff into the inlet wouldn't kill it as a one off :y

Oh it easily could as a one off, particularly oe a weak engins such as that (its far from being a robust agricultural power plant).

I have seen it used on a petrol mower and it took ten minutes to find the cylinder head in the hedge

Yes, and unfortunately it didn't make the girls 'wet with sexual need' ;D ;)

That all changed when I bought my Yamaha RD250. I became a Beckhamesque 'babe magnet' overnight. ;)....Honest.  ::) ::) ;)
