i avoid tescos as much as poss, i use iceland most of time and grocers and butchers and bakers now. quality is better too.

So the kid goes and waits outside the shop... alchohol is purchased ... what has been achieved ??

This is a totally ill thought out "solution" to a serious problem.... and the chances of someone saying "we cocked up" ? zilch.

Well intended but misguided.

I have had a similar experience of supermarkets trying to manage my wellbeing..

I read a while ago that taking one asprin a day had health benefits (notably vs some cancer), so I filled my basket at Sainsbury's with a load of packets.   Checkout operative told me I could only buy 2 packets - as if I bought more I could overdose myself (this is 'dangle berries' anyway - it only applies to Paracetemol).    I could however buy unlimited whiskey, fags etc, or jump under a bus in the car park, you name it..  Why they feel they have the authority to police our wellbeing I don't know.

wasnt there a law stating that a child as young as 5 can consume an acceptable amount of an alcoholic drink while in their own home with the supervision of parents? surely this would make it perfectly legal for a parent to buy alcohol with her kids present in the store

Teso's attempted to ID me last Christmas as I was purchasing various alcofrolic beverages. I am 29, with 2 kids, the oldest being 7. I have more grey hair than black and was on this particular eveing dressed like me dad.

I asked the rather dim witted cashier if she really thought that I was 11 years old when my daughter was born. Her response;  "prove shes yours"

Now, the alcohol she was just about to scan was approx half way through packing. The conveyor was still full and I had several packed bags, which alreadey added up to some 180 quid (go a bit mad a christmas) sitting on the floor and in the trolley. My response; walked away and left it all, much to the annoyaence of everyone in the que.

Needless to say, i haven't been back since.

Was told in BandQ that they would only sell paint scrapers to over 18's because they are considered sharp......a 5 year old could buy a lump hammer though!

I don't know that it's illegal for youngsters to consume alchohol at home anyway. I'm sure that if you're out at a restaurant even a young child is allowed to have a glass of wine for example as long as they're drinking it with the meal.

I don't know that it's illegal for youngsters to consume alchohol at home anyway. I'm sure that if you're out at a restaurant even a young child is allowed to have a glass of wine for example as long as they're drinking it with the meal.

if my aged memory serves me correctly, at one time, you had to be 14 to have a glass of wine with a meal in a restaurant, accompanied by parents....

no idea if that's changed...   but we've certainly done that.....  

and yes, parents can decide their child can have  a glass of wine or whatever at home.....   in our house though, we don't allow it until they're 13, unless it's bubbly on a REALLY special occasion...

but after 13, they're offered wine if we're having it...

we started allowing them the odd lager or some such at 16 a few years ago as well.   responsibly, in moderation, and not often....

Tesco....they certainly didnt overstep the mark on Wednesday in Manchester.

They did however overSTOCK the door as the main entrance to one of the city centre Tesco Metros was 6 feet high with slabs of 24 packs of stella to flog on offer to the travelling football fans.

I would call them two faced personally
