Vikings Canterbury
« on: 17 May 2013, 16:54:33 »

you may recall i took mr magoo ( the old man) to look at his second hand car B class merc, it was over priced but suited the old fella so he agreed a deal got all the bull about how vikings has 2 showrooms oh both mercedes dealers but only one is approved used mercedes so you dont get a full 12 months so old fella had to pay extra £250 to extend the warrenty for a year, bloody highway robbers.

he went to the dealers on his own to pick up the car today bearing in mind mr magoo is not as sharp as he used to be and the salesmans given him a load of rollox about scratch damage and depreciation and ended up flogging him another £700 worth of insurance which he did not need but was probably more confussed than anything.

going round later to have a read of said insurances and read what the conditions are and find a way to get his money back

then me and mr salesman will have a little chat and remind him of our previous conversation when we made the deal for the car or just paid the asking price more like, please do not confuse my dad and try to flog him anything else

Apparently the sales git sat him down and told him it was a legal requirment that he had to go through these insurances and if he did not want them he had to sign a decleration to this effect.

The old man was paying cash no finance involved ffs, fuming is not the word i would care to use

There should legally be a 14 day cooling off period with this type of thing, cancel it then smash his face in >:(

Cancel it under sale of goods, cooling off period.

Then threaten to report to trading standards for miss selling. If he doesn't get something substantial as compo then just do it

;D ;D ;D cheers guys just got back and yes quite right 14 days to cancel phew so we will sort it out tomorrow plus they did not repair a chip in the windscreen.

the sleeze bag had already filled out all the forms before the old man got there ie statement of facts etc so when they were all bundles in front of him think it did all confuse him a little, bless him was going over his speech for tomorrow. Never ever seen my dad as vunerable bit upsetting really so best leave it up to him to sort out tomorrow its something he wants to do. Not quite accpted he needs a bit of support now and again

i will only be a phone call away, in fact closer than he thinks just in case ;) :y

I would be inclined to demand to speak with the dealer principle. Then give him the car back, and take my money back, then report them to trading standards.

Or ring Mercedes UK, and report them there, might get a more direct reaction :-\

could not agree more Al but its quite difficult with the old fella. It may well come to that depends how it goes tomorrow, the old man wants to sort it himself think part of him feels embarrassed not that he has any reason to be and i dont want to step in and sort of undermine him, so i will just make sure i am not very far away

Arguably, their behaviour has already rendered the deal null and void :-\ Returning the car ought to be a formality :-\

You could nip round first thing, express your disgust with the salesmans behaviour to the dealer principle. Let them know you Dad will be back later, and they should refund anything he has paid over the screen price plus an apology of say £1k plus three years servicing. And that they should treat him like royalty in the process.

That way, you get it out of your system, your Dad gets a fair deal, and also leaves feeling treated respectfully rather than being bent over and taken advantaged of :-\
