Hi
My daughters i phone was not working very well and she was advised to do a restore, now it will not activate either through itunes on a usb or through a wifi connection,just getting message saying cannot be activated please try later ,but she has been doing this for three days now!!.
We have also tried it from recovery mode and get to the same point .
Any ideas anyone ??
apple support would like us to buy a new phone!

yep downloaded latest version when tried to restore.
good enough for OOF!!

Both of which we have done numerous times ,and am now getting fed up!!

Yep brand new from orange and still with them under contract but out of apple warranty.

Try putting it in DFU Mode:

Connect using USB cable.

Turn off. To do that press Power button on the top right side of the device for about 5 seconds and then swipe to power off slider.

Press Power button for three seconds.

While still holding Power button press Home button.

Hold both Home and Power button for 10 seconds.

Release the Power button and hold Home for 10 more seconds.

Release Home button.


iTunes will detect the iPhone in "recovery mode" - do a clean restore.

Still the same result i am afraid.
Did speak to apple earlier and was talked through a similar thing ,they thought it was a hardware issue and would I like a new phone!
Might ring Orange and see what the options are to terminate contract or something similar.
It is just refusing to go and neither company seem to think its their problem so I guess it must be ours!!

I see no reason why you can't post details of how to jailbreak as that is not illegal in any way, shape, or form.

Apple take the stance that if you screw the phone up while jailbreaking then you can kiss your warranty goodbye (just like all the other manufacturers), but it's quite hard to actually proper f**k it up to the point where you can't fix it yourself if it does go wrong.

The legalities are yet to be tested, but thats a different matter.

My concerns with JB'ing are around users understanding what jailbreaking is actually doing, and how that affects the security of a permenently Internet connected device. Hence, I work on the principle, if you have to ask, you don't understand the security cnsequences, thus shouldn't do it.

As an update to this saga,having had a stern word or two regarding my continuing account with orange (landline,broadband,two mobiles and twenty odd years custom)they sent me a new sim although" it wont be the sim it"ll be the phone"
New sim activated ,insert in buggered i phone and guess what?  ....all back to normal ,peace at last.
So ring billing to remonstrate about lack of use rebate and they give me two free months and up the data to a gig.
Happy days.
